Cryosurgery (also called cryotherapy) is a treatment that uses extreme cold produced by liquid nitrogen (or argon gas) to destroy abnormal tissue. Cryosurgery is often used to treat dermatologic conditions such as warts, tumors (benign and cancerous) and skin lesions. Early stage skin cancers may often be treated with cryosurgery, as well as pre-cancerous skin growths known as actinic keratosis.
